Story by Ryan Howden
Apologies for the late post I haven’t been 100% recently but what a bunch of mid-week games that was! Lets go!
Notts County 3-3 Bournemouth
A late goal from Matt Tubb’s earned Bournemouth a point in this exciting encounter. Notts County opened the scoring through Jeff Hughes before Yoann Arquin doubled the lead after a defensive error.
Bournemouth though fought back when Josh McQuoid latched onto Donal McDermott’s fine cross and Neal Bishop scored from the spot. The Magpies went ahead again when Jamal Campbell-Ryce scored from the spot before Tubb’s 85th minute goal made it 3-3.
Tranmere 1-2 Doncaster
An injury time winner from Ian Hume saw Doncaster inflict a second straight defeat on league leaders Tranmere. Billy Paynter opened the scoring for Doncaster just after the break but Jake Cassidy’s 87th minute goal looked to have secured the point for Tranmere.
Sheffield United 1-0 Walsall
Sheffield United continued their unbeaten start to the season and moved within two points of the league leaders. Nick Blackman scored the only goal of the game from the spot after Dave Kitson was fouled by Dean Holden , who was sent off.
Despite dominating the Blades could not find a second goal.
Shrewsbury 1-3 Yeovil
A brace from the in-form Paddy Madden gave Yeovil an easy victory at Shrewsbury. Madden opened the scoring with a far-post header before James Hayter doubled the lead.
Madden netted another header to make it 3-0 before Matt Richards scored from the spot for Shrewsbury.
Carlisle 3-1 Oldham
Carlisle ended Oldhams four-match unbeaten run to claim only their second home win of the season. The home side took the lead when Joe Garner headed home from Liam Nobles cross, and the striker then struck again to make it 2-0 before Robson pounced on a loose ball to finish the game.
Jose Baxter scored late for the spot to pull a goal back for the visitors.
The Rest of Tuesdays Action
A late penalty from Harry Forrester earned Brentford all three points as they faced Coventry. The Sky Blue’s had taken an early lead through David McGoldrick before Forrester scored his first just before half-time. Bury got their first win of the season against Hartlepool, who replaced them at the bottom of the table. Tom Hopper opened the scoring for Bury before David Worral doubled the lead, Ryan Noble immediately pulled one back for Hartlepool but the hosts hung on for the win. A brace from Billy Clarke gave Crawley their fifth win in six games as they beat MK Dons.
Byron Moore opened his account for the season as his Crewe beat Swindon 2-1. Anthony Wordsworth and Ian Henderson netted as Colchester won at Leyton Orient to secure their third consecutive win in the league. A first-half hat-trick from Nicky Wroe saw Preston defeat a resurgent Scunthorpe who had pulled back to 3-2 via goals from Leon Clark and Karl Hawley. Filipe Morais scored twice as Stevenage defeated Portsmouth 2-1.
