League One: Weekly Round Up 15/09

By Ryan Howden

Hello everyone, firstly I apologise for my lack of updates recently but you see I graduated and had to do some very immoral things at parties that left me unable to write. Anyway I’m back and I’m pumped so you’ll be seeing alot of changes around here but for now lets look at this weeks football action.

Jose Baxter

Tranmere 2-0 Coventry

Two late goals from Jake Cassidy and Andy Robinson moved Tranmere to the top of the table and saw Coventry’s disastrous start to life in League One continue.

Oldham 2-2 Notts County

Debut goals from Matt Derbyshire and Jose Baxter earned Oldham a draw against a 10-man Notts County. Andre Boucand was sent off in the first half but the Magpies opened the scoring with a volley from Joss Labadie.

Derbyshire was able to round the keeper and level for Oldham before Robbie Simpson missed from the spot. Campbell-Ryce was able to put Notts ahead before Baxter levelled late on. County have now gone unbeated away from home for 10 consecutive league games.

David Cotterill

Colchester 1-2 Doncaster

Doncaster started brightly at the Community Stadium with an early goal from David Cotterill. Colchester levelled on 30 minutes with a deflected shot from Magnus Ouonghae.

The lead was restored for the Rovers when Andrew Bond sent the ball into his own net from a Cotterill free kick.

Carlisle 2-2 Swindon

A Jake Jervis brace earned Carlisle a draw against Swindon. Jervis scored from the edge of the area on 14 minutes after a poor Alan McCormack clearance. What followed was a mad four minutes, Rooney drew Swindon level on 29 minutes before Jervis instantly replied to restore the lead. Then Paul Benson levelled for Swindon on 32 minutes.

Stevenage 2-2 Crewe

Stevenage came from two-down to earn a draw against 10-man Crewe.

Crewe made a great start to the game with striker AJ Leitch-Smith scoring twice in the first 10 minutes. Stevenage’s Luke Freeman hit back with a 25-yard strike before Crewe forward Chuks Aneke was sent off for a two footed lunge. Robin Shroot then completed the comeback with a goal late on.

Jake Cassidy

Matt Tubbs came off the bench to rescue a draw for Bournemouth as they took on Hartlepool. Hartlepool had earlier took the lead through James Waltan’s conversion from the spot.

A late goal from striker Charlie MacDonald gave MK Dons victory over Yeovil. Walsall’s run of five games unbeaten continued as they secured at 2-1 win at Portsmouth. Gary Alexander scored twice as Crawley brought Preston’s unbeaten run to an end.

Bury’s Peter Sweeney’s free kick earned them a draw at Sheffield United after Nick Blackman had opened the scoring. An early goal from Leon Clark was enough to earn a win for Scunthorpe at Shrewsbury.
